Manchester United have been a little toothless at times up top this season and, while the defence and midfield looks close to completion, the quest continues for the perfect forward line.
Reports today suggest that Manchester United’s apparent target, Mario Gomez, would be allowed to leave the club if the right offer came in.
The president of his club, Besiktas, says that offers above 20m Euros would be considered.
Fikret Orman is quoted as saying:
“At the end of the season if any club wants Gomez they will have to offer €20m million or more I mean we are talking about a German international striker who has proven himself countless times at the highest level,”
The 6ft 2in striker has scored plenty of goals throughout his career.
He has 25 goals in 60 games for Germany although he has sometimes flattered to deceive on the biggest stage for his country.
At club level he has scored 244 in 432 and is currently enjoying a real purple patch in Turkey with 9 goals in 15 games so far this season.
At 30 he may not be a long term solution for Manchester United but Louis van Gaal did namecheck him recently when he said:
“I was manager of Bayern, and there the striker was Mario Gomez, and he touched the ball nine times as an average in a game,”
We have come to realise that LvG regularly name checks players that he is keen to sign, as with Neymar and Angel di Maria.
Let’s see Gomez in action. Manchester United fans: a good solution up top?
