It is all getting rather boring watching Manchester United these days isn’t it?
The game against CSKA was yet anther example of the metronomic sideways passing that has become a feature of Manchester United under Louis van Gaal.
The sense of adventure, and speed of forward play, which used to be such a trademark of Manchester United seems to have all but deserted the club under the new management and, in his TV pundit’s role for BT Sport, Paul Scholes was scathing about his old club. MEN quotes him as saying:
“You look at the United team, there is no quality, no movement. People are not running.
“Is it the way they are told to play?
“It’s all safety playing across the pitch. I can’t remember a pass in to Wayne Rooney. There is no movement.
Indeed Wayne Rooney was anonymous again and, but for Anthony Martial’s brilliant piece of improvisation the scoreline would have been more reflective of the performance.
You could party excuse the players for one bad performance as they have such a big game at the weekend.
But it’s more than one sluggish performance. It’s a sluggish style of play which may never really suit this club.
Manchester United will need to look like a completely different beast if they are to have any hope of beating the best team in the league on Sunday.
