Not Herrera: Manchester United’s Man of Match vs Everton

Great game

Manchester United played as well against Everton as they did badly against Arsenal and it was clear to see that they had learned some important lessons from the defeat.

Because Manchester United closed down the opposition midfield so much quicker on Saturday and this was crucial to the win.

There were some excellent performances from all over the team.

Returning defenders Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo looked as if they had never been away and made a sterling case for inclusion every week.

Up top Anthony Martial was at times bewitching and Wayne Rooney looks to be getting some of his old sharpness back.

In midfield Ander Herrera was excellent and many would have him as their man of the match vs Everton with a goal and an assist.

But we think that the best player on the park for Manchester United was Morgan Schneiderlin.

He has taken time to find his feet at the club but we feel that he really announced himself in this game with a performance which said to the manager ‘I am forcing you to pick me’.

Exactly what United needs

Exactly what United needs

Herrera may have provided the asssist for Rooney’s goal, but it was the beautifully weighted pass from The Frenchman which opened up Everton.

And many pundits suggested that his opening goal was a formality. But we have seen top forwards miss from there. This was a really accomplished finish from a fairly narrow angle.

His all round game was superb. He provided the energy and bite that the Manchester United midfield lacked against Arsenal and his passing was superb.

Schneiderlin is not the sort of flair player that gets the plaudits each week. But he’s quietly industrious and efficient and he gets our vote for Manchester United man of the match vs Everton.

Manchester United fans: agreed?
