I dreamt last night that Wayne Rooney told me LvG was an alcoholic and LvG told me that he was more than happy about the way that Manchester United have been performing, despite my insistence that there has been little to no progress in the last few months – but there was a definite potency about his breath!
It’s true that Manchester United are better than they were a year ago but we can’t help but think that this has more to do with player arrivals than LvG’s tactics.
The style seems a little slow for The Premier League and Manchester United were never going to mount one of their famous comebacks against Arsenal by stroking the ball sideways at 3-0 down.
United need more urgency and they need to fling more players forward when they are attacking. That is how Manchester United became feared in this league and that fear factor seems to be ebbing away under the Dutchman.
Opponents are more likely to be bored to tears than scored to death by United’s chess-like build ups.
Thankfully, the personnel is high quality and perhaps we need to show even more patience in LvG.
Perhaps, soon, United will be playing with all the speed and fluency of, dare we say it, Manchester City.
McNair, Carrick and Schweinsteiger got injured on international duty but only McNair is definitely out this weekend.
So here is our strongest Manchester United XI to gain some momentum after the Arsenal horror show. We are giving Phil Jones something of a surprise place next to Smalling and placing Blind at left back to try to stem the recent spate of poor performances from the full backs.
Manchester United fans: let’s have your elevens

Not bad, but I think this is the best, De Gea, Darmian, Rojo, Smalling, Blind, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Depay, Mata, Rooney and super Martial.
