Well, the term ‘plays’ is possibly a little generous.
Because Nick Powell has only ever played 7 games at senior level for Manchester United.
And when he was named in The Champions League squad at the start of the month, even some of the more ardent Manchester United fans were surprised.
Powell looked like a really decent prospect when he joined the club from Crewe in 2010.
In retrospect, he may feel that he moved up the ladder too quickly and the move stunted his progress.
He’s been on loan to Wigan and Leicester over the last couple of years but he was sent back to Manchester United at the end of last year because he was rumoured to have shown a lack of commitment in training.
If perspiration trumps inspiration, on the road to success, then this rumour doesn’t bode well for Powell.
Strangely though, we wouldn’t be surprised if Louis van Gaal sees something that he likes in Powell. He’s silky player who could possibly drop deeper as his career progresses to become a pass master and goalscoring midfielder for Manchester United.
The Dutch boss loves to spring a surprise so we shouldn’t be too shocked if the 21 year old does make an appearance in a cup game, for example.
But a move away from the club, to reignite his falling career, looks the safest bet right now.
Let’s see him in action.
