Winter transfers?

You wouldn’t wish a serious injury on anyone. But the leg break to Luke Shaw in The Champions League on Tuesday was particularly cruel for Manchester United fans who were so happy to see this lad finally fulfilling his potential.

In a era of restrained football at the club Shaw was a refreshing hark back to the swashbuckling United teams of old and he was getting better every week.

Thankfully Manchester United have excellent options in that area with Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and even Ashley Young able to fill in there.

But there are murmurs, in some areas of the media, that another young left back could be on the radar at Old Trafford.

The Daily Star says that Louis van Gaal is showing real interest in Leeds youngster Charlie Taylor after a flying start to the season for the 21 year old.

United boss Louis van Gaal has sent his scouts to watch the defender in action several times and is considering a bid.

He does look like a United type. He usually plays at left back but has also been known to turn out on the left wing. He’s an aggressive, quick and positive wide man with real pace and excellent.

His game is also marked by a fearlessness which often propels him deep into oppositon territory.

Whether he has the technique to make the grade at the very top level is difficult to discern at this point. But, having played twice for England at U19 level, he is widely admired.

Let’s see some scruffy footage of him scoring against Sheffield Wednesday earlier this year.
