Wayne Rooney was definitely a little off the pace against Spurs on Saturday, leading to hasty questions about whether he is going to be enough for Manchester United at number 9 this season.

But anyone who has followed his career will tell you that this lad needs time to find his rhythm each season. He’s no Ryan Giggs, who seemed to float across the surface from day one of a new campaign.

But, given the job as manager of Manchester United, we wouldn’t swap him for any player in the world. He may no longer have the pace of an Aguero but his all round game is superb, he’s a great leader, and he will guarantee over 20 goals if he is left to hone his skills up top.

And reports today suggest that Louis feels the same way, as he is planning not to buy another striker and instead hold on to Javier Hernandez. Sky Sports reports:

Manchester United will not be selling striker Javier Hernandez this summer.

We understand there are no plans to let the Mexican leave either on loan or a permanent deal as United are short on strikers.

And, in his weekly press conference, LvG said of Chicharito

“He is second striker to Wayne Rooney. He knows that.”

With 40 goals in 74 games for Mexico this lad is still something of a goal machine.

He may not have fulfilled his potential in the way that many expected when he broke through in devastating fashion at Manchester United in 2010.

But you don’t play for United and Real Madrid without the qualities of a top player.

We think that he will inject pace and industry into the back end of games for Manchester United next season and provide the perfect cover for Wazza.

Manchester United should now concentrate on bringing a couple of wing wizards and a centre back to the club.
