Nearly done?

Manchester United fans will be wary of another potential transfer deal dragging on for too long.

And so reports today, from Spain, that Manchester United have sent representatives to Barcelona to hammer out the finer points of a deal for Spanish international Pedro, will reassure the faithful that things are moving with this one.

Spanish Media Outlet, AS, reports:

After the player’s mother revealed that Old Trafford would be his destination, on Monday the Premier League club sent representatives to Barcelona to close the deal for the forward as soon as possible.

The report states that the player will not be allowed to leave Barcelona for anything less than 30M Euros (around £21m).

But with the sale of Angel di Maria pending Manchester United certainly aren’t short of cash.

Their overall spend, when you factor in the £45m for Di Maria and the £9m for RvP and Nani, is not much more than £20m this summer.

While Pedro may not be the whole solution for Manchester United, in terms of adding speed to the side, he will certainly help to strengthen the squad and should walk straight into the team in place of Ashley Young or Juan Mata.

At 28 he is a celebrated international for Spain, with 51 caps and 16 goals to his name.

He’s a lovely player to watch – very neat and tidy and he seldom wastes the ball.

He’s not the fastest player at Barcelona but nor is he a slouch.

He’s light on his feet and glides across the turf, making things happen and scoring goals – he’s hit 98 in 300 appearances for Barca.

So it’s an excellent signing if it comes off. But we still expect LvG to add more firepower before the window closes.

Manchester United fans: will Pedro walk straight into the first team?
