Manchester United have been one of the busier clubs this summer, with five signings so far and more expected before the window closes.

But they have also shed a lot of talent with the likes of Tom Cleverley, Radamel Falcao and RvP departing Old Trafford.

Another big departure is expected with Angel di Maria.

But the president of Lyon has today confirmed that Brazilian defender Rafael is in France to tie up a move, in what could be Manchester United’s next piece of business.

Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed today that:

“Raphael [sic] has arrived from Manchester U. We’re waiting for an agreement with MU on the transfer. He’s in a very Brazilian good mood.”

And the player himself tweeted this evening:

Thank you @ManUtd FC. I also want to thank all employees who always treated me with great affection and gave me greater attention.

The move looks all but done now and many Manchester United fans will be sad to see the lad leave the club.

He so nearly cemented his place in the Manchester United team, with some brilliant and buccaneering performances for the club, particularly under Sir Alex Ferguson – indeed, he has been at United for almost 9 years already.

But injuries have seriously stunted his progress and he clearly wasn’t favoured by Louis van Gaal in his first season at the club.

We wish him all the best at Lyon and very much expect him to be one of the stars of Ligue 1 next season.

Manchester United fans: is it the right move to get rid of Rafa?
