Manchester United: Deal for €9.9m rated wide man close – report

Da Silva has the spirit of a true Manchester United star

Promise

We don’t always agree with Louis van Gaal’s decisions about who to buy and sell.

But you have to say that the man is decisive and knows his mind.

It appears that, almost from day one at Manchester United, the Dutchman didn’t fancy Rafael da Silva.

The Brazilian’s ability to stake a claim to a first team spot at Old Trafford was obviously hindered by the injuries which became a constant problem in his United career.

But his handful of performances for Louis van Gaal – he turned out 11 times last season but mainly from the bench – were once more pock-marked by the rash defending which he never seemed to iron out of his game.

At 25 his career seems have been in stasis for a few years – he started his Manchester United career with such promise and was a Fergie favourite when fit.

But injuries and a lack of maturity in his game have seemingly put paid to his time at Manchester United and reports suggest that he is close to agreeing a movie.

The Star on Sunday reports:

Man United close to striking deal with Lyon for Brazil international

Valued at £7m, he could even be sold for a cut price as Van Gaal continues revamping his squad ahead of the first game of the season against Tottenham next Saturday.

Many Manchester United fans will be sad to see him go after showing such potential in his formative years at the club.

In total he played 169 times and scored 5 goals.

Let’s see his best moments, including that belter against Liverpool.

I won’t be sad to see him go. He was another headless chicken darting around, diving into tackles, getting sent off in important games. Very like Phil Jones who doesn’t appear to be leaving just yet.
