No way

We definitely think that Tottenham could do with some more quality in the wide areas.

While Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela are decent squad members Tottenham need more competition down the flanks for our money.

But we aren’t sure that one of the latest players to be linked is the right man for the job.

The Daily Mirror states:

Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa are ready to test Crystal Palace’s resolve to hang on to Yannick Bolasie.

We think that the game should always be based on spectacle and Bolasie certianly provides that at times – he’s a mercurial player who is great to watch.

But is he right for Tottenham? The figures discussed in the article are £20m and we think that Bolaise would represent a massive gamble at that price.

Because while his skill isn’t in question he doesn’t always seem to be able to control the genius and we would question whether he has the consistency to make a real difference at Tottenham.

We could just as easily see him falling by the wayside after some disappointing performances at the top end of the league, where the pressure is constantly on.

The 26 year old has played 19 times for DR Congo and scored 4 goals.

He’s also played 112 times for Crystal Palace, scoring 7 times.

Ans this is another issue. Increasingly, in the modern game, wingers are expected to create but also to chip in with goals. 7 in over 100 games for Palace doesn’t exactly speak of a player who is ruthless in front of goal.

So we would suggest that, unless the usually excellent Mauricio Pochettino has lost his head, that this one is dead in the water as far as Tottenham are concerned.

Let’s take a look at him in action.

Tottenham fans: would you like to see him at White Hart Lane?
