Forget Muller: This 99 goal maestro is a world class option for Manchester United

Frightening

We can’t help thinking that Thomas Muller would be hugely over priced at 100m.

He would help to make Manchester United a more successful team.

But at that price you surely want to see a player who can make the jaw drop with sublime pieces of skill don’t you?

That probably won’t happen with Muller. He’s a Machiavellian type who never stops running and usually ends up on the winning side.

But he doesn’t have lightning pace or sublime guile and he won’t leave Manchester United fans speechless.

If we held the purse strings we would leave the centre forward role to Wayne Rooney and instead go for a wide man.

Manchester United look likely to lose Angel di Maria, and with him lots of pace.

In his place Manchester United currently have Young, Mata and Depay to fill in on the flanks.

We would bring Mata inside, ditch Young and play Memphis Depay and Marco Reus on the wings.

At 26 Reus – who has scored 99 club goals in 272 games – is about to become a household name. He would already have that status if he hadn’t been cruelly injured on the eve of The World Cup that his team went on to win.

But he’s a wonderful player who pretty much has the lot – speed, composure, deadly finishing, the ability to play anywhere across the front line.

And, just as importantly, Marco Reus has the ability to get Manchester United fans out of their seats with his wonderfully quick feet and guile – a quality that Thomas Muller perhaps lacks.

Despite Manchester United’s huge scouting network they have seemingly targeted high profile, household names this summer.

We would be very surprised if Reus hadn’t come up in conversation and we think that the club should pull out all the stops to sign a player who can bring magic back to the wings for United this season. With Di Maria likely to leave, they need to make a winger signing and we can’t see a better, potentially gettable target than Reus.

Here’s how Manchester United could line up with the lad.
