While Manchester United fans are waiting for the big deals to drop, they will have to content themselves with news from Italy that Manchester United have signed the Argentine No.1 goalkeeper Sergio Romero who is available on a free after his contract with Sampdoria expired this summer.
Respected Italian news media outlet La Gazzetta Della Sport says:
Romero signs for Manchester United on a free transfer
The goalkeeper of the Argentine National has agreed to a three-year 1.8 million net per season. In Italy in recent weeks had courted Inter and Roma
After a successful World Cup, in which Romero was widely regarded as one of the best keepers, he played out the last year of his contract and Manchester United weren’t the only interested party with suitors in Italy too.
So how does this affect David de Gea?
Well the feeling is that Romero will be used as a back up at Manchester United next season, regardless of whether the Spaniard stays or goes.
In this respect, Romero is seen as a replacement for the out of favour Victor Valdes, who was United’s reserve keeper last season.
At 28 Romero has 62 caps for Argentina and is seen as a very safe pair of hands with great experience for club and country.
His career has seen him play in Argentina, Holland (where he played for AZ who Louis used to coach), Italy and Spain.
