For the Manchester United fans who were hoping that Louis van Gaal’s mystery striker signing was going to be one of the biggest stars in the game, they may be disappointed.
But, while this guy may seem like a bit of an underwhelming purchase it is a deal which makes some sense.
The Mirror reports:
Louis van Gaal’s mystery transfer target can be revealed as Juventus striker Fernando Llorente
The report suggests that Manchester United have been asked to be kept informed about any updates on the situation of the 6ft 5in striker who hasn’t been getting a game at Juventus as regularly as he would have liked in the big games over the last two seasons.
Manchester United look as if they are going to give Wayne Rooney the chance to nudge the club scoring record next season by playing him at number 9 – and after a season in which the club captain played all over the park for his team, he more than deserves it.
So the idea of buying in an A-list striker would perhaps unbalance the squad.
But a player like Llorente may indeed fit the bill.
At 30 years of age he’s not going to play every week for Manchester United.
But he is a player with a fantastic first touch, great technique and the sort of experience and composure that would make him a decent back up choice for Rooney, if unfit or tired.
LLorente famously scored an absolute belter as Manchester United were knocked out of The Europa League in 2011 with a sensational volley after a 60 yard pass.
Real Madrid may also fancy signing the player but Manchester United may offer the lad a more realistic opportunity for game time next season.
Let’s see him in action.
Manchester United fans: a good choice?
