PICTURE: Manchester United’s best XI with Thomas Muller and the centre back discussed by LvG in his press conference

The wonderful conundrum created by Manchester United head coach Louis van Gaal’s latest press conference is yet another example of his mastery of the art of management.

Because he stated that while he wants to sign another striker this summer:

It’s not the striker that the media has written

Perhaps, of course, he simply wants to throw everyone off the scent. What we do know is that, judging by his signings so far as Manchester United manager, Louis likes high profile names.

He signed Angel di Maria last year and the captain of Germany this.

He’s also keen on Sergio Ramos. So he’s not scared to go out and sign celebrated stars who can improve his first eleven immediately.

The latest news cycle has had some interesting pieces on Thomas Muller of Bayern Munich.

The Guardian reckons that the player would be open to a move should a fee be agreed and this has lead many to believe that Muller is indeed the man that LvG wants to add to his forward line.

As well as being as effective as strikers come – Muller has scored at every level and is clearly a man for the big occasion – the Germany international is a highly adaptable player who can operate in 3 or 4 positions and different formations with ease.

Van Gaal also name checked Sergio Ramos once more in his press conference, in the build up to Manchester United’s second game of the pre-season tour against San Jose Earthquakes:

I have said already it’s a process and maybe Mr Ramos is in the process you never know.

If we are to assume that these two will join the club this summer then this would perhaps be their strongest line up come September.
