It’s really hotting up for Manchester United in the market now.
Most clubs would be happy with the business that United have done so far in recruiting some of the world’s finest players this summer.
But there is a sense that Manchester United will make a marquee signing to really bolster their options and make a push on all fronts next season.
And some areas of the media continue with the recent rumour that Louis van Gaal will pursue a move for Thomas Muller.
In a very interesting turn of events from the highly respected sports media outlet, The Guardian, Jamie Jackson writes:
Manchester United target Thomas Müller but Bayern Munich stand firm
• No bid has been lodged but fee would be around £56m (80m Euros)
Thomas Müller is open to a move to Manchester United although Bayern Munich are insistent the forward is not for sale.
United are aware of Bayern’s resistance though they have not given up hope of prising him away for a fee in the region of €80m (£55.7m).
Muller’s career record looks more like that of a veteran than a 25 year old. He’s already played 63 times for Germany and scored 27 goals.
He was top scorer at The World Cup in 2010 and lifted the trophy in 2014. He’s also won a Champions League and Bundesliga titles and hit 121 goals in 304 games for Bayern.
Muller is a prolific if unspectacular player who once said of Louis van Gaal.
‘Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes beyond that which is normal between a player and a coach. However, I have a contract with Bayern until 2017.’
In truth he wouldn’t be our choice of A-lister but he is the sort of player who is more efficient than most.
He makes things happen, is a great athlete who rarely gives the ball away and scores goals in big games.
At just 25 he would give Manchester Untied 5-7 years of top service and few Manchester United fans would complain if he joined the club this summer.
Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans: A good buy?
