While not desperate, Manchester United seem increasingly likely to add a striker to the roster after the departure of Radamel Falcao and the imminent exit of RvP, with the fee surely soon to be agreed between the clubs in question.
None of these guys would be easy to snare but perhaps the next Manchester United number 9 will come from this group.
Muller
We have taken a lot of criticism from readers after describing this lad as something of an underwhelming prospective purchase. He is of course a supremely effective player who has scored goals at the very highest level.
But, rather like a limited tennis player who plays the percentage game and wins matches by padding the ball back and waiting for the opponent to make unforced errors, we just aren’t convinced by the style of the player.
For the sorts of figures being discussed, in relation to his transfer, Manchester United fans would want to see a player who regularly leaves their jaws on the floor with show stopping brilliance – after all United has always been a club which values spectacle almost as highly as substance – and Muller may not be that man. He doesn’t really boil our potatoes at £60m anyway.
Kane
Something of a gamble after just one top season in The Prem. But what a season. And when you see the way that Kane strikes the ball, it conjures memories of the lethal Alan Shearer in his heyday. But Spurs will bend Manchester United over a barrel and spank them within £1 of insolvency before they let any deal happen.
Benteke
We think he may be the most viable option at this point. He’d be a really exciting signing for Manchester United – an absolute powerhouse who would leave opponents battered, bruised, hopelessly disorientated and on the verge of tears. I certainly wouldn’t fancy a one on one duel with the lad. But he also has lovely technique and an eye for the spectacular, Sparkyesque, overhead scissor kick.
Lewandowski
What a player. But Bayern will be in no mood to sell after Basti went to Old Trafford last weekend.
Cavani
One of the more likely deals. Cavani is an unerring marksman who would fit the bill as a 30 goal a season man. Will this deal see Di Maria go the other way? We hope not but it could grease the wheels of another top transfer.
Let’s see Cavani in action. Manchester United fans: who gets your vote?
