Chelsea

How does Jose do it? Another genuinely top class signing close for Chelsea according to widespread reports

We have maintained all summer that any player with the slightest ambition in their profession, would not want to go to Chelsea and sit on the bench with little to no prospect of first team action.

With Thibaut Courtois looking as if he will be between the sticks at Chelsea for another decade, we are still somewhat shocked that all media reports are pointing towards the Chelsea signing of Asmir Begovic.

For our money, Begovic is good enough to play for most teams in the league. Apart from Cech at Arsenal, Lloris at Tottenham and Courtois at Chelsea, Begovic would surely get into every other first team – assuming that David de Gea leaves Manchester United for Real Madrid.

So the fact that he has seemingly picked Chelsea is a huge testament to the persuasive powers of Jose Mourinho.

And the Portuguese must have given substantial assurances that playing time would be granted for a top keeper in the peak years of his career.

We believe that the Chelsea boss has told Begovic that he will play in all the cup games to start with, while Courtois will initially retain the gloves for The Premier League and Europe.

Of course there is a very real prospect of Begovic fighting for the number one jersey. Courtois is a force of nature and a top keeper, but it only takes a few high profile errors and Begovic will be in.

Sky Sports reports today:

Sky sources report that Chelsea are close to signing Bosnian international goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke.

If it does come off, it’s a great signing for Chelsea, who will have by far and away the best goalkeeping depth in their squad next season.

Chelsea fans: how much game time can you see Begovic getting?
