Jose Mourinho tends to work quickly and discreetly in the market and, according to widespread reports, his latest move is for a superb Spaniard.
Real Madrid reject £20million approach from Chelsea for Spanish midfielder Isco
At 23, Isco has struggled to get a regular game at Real Madrid. He is a wonderful talent but, when the creative positions are occupied by Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema and Rodriguez, there is no shame in being benched.
And the midfielder will want to be playing at his age so he may well be tempted by the idea of a move to Chelsea. He can of course occupy various positions in the team – he regularly plays out wide for Madrid as well as through the middle. But his potential arrival would surely put even more pressure on Oscar.
The Brazilian has shown moments of brilliance over the last year but still hasn’t fulfilled his potential. If Isco came into the side then Oscar may well drop to the bench. Either that or Willian becomes the fall guy again out wide.
As the cliche goes, it’s a lovely problem to have and Jose Mourinho may well wish to keep both in his squad. After all, they are at a great age.
But, with FFP constraints still biting, Oscar may prove to be the player who is most dispensable and can balance the books if Chelsea spend heavily again this summer.
Let’s see Isco in action. Chelsea fans: Oscar or Isco?
