Despite having a disappointing time of it last season, where progress seemed to stall, Manchester City aren’t exactly in need of a major overhaul this summer.
For our money they simply need to buy one or two really top quality players to add freshness and a little fairy dust to what they already have.
We certainly think that they could add quality in the wide areas with Milner gone and Jesus Navas falling off the pace after a great start to his Manchester City career.
And one name that has been linked to the club all summer is that of Kevin de Bruyne. The 24 year old already has 30 caps and 7 goals for Belgium. But it’s his recent club form which has really drawn attention – 16 goals and 27 assists last season speaks of a player of supreme value to his team.
He’s strong, direct, composed and technically excellent. And, despite talk of his club wanting to keep him, The Daily Mail reckons that Manchester City are confident of completing a deal this summer. They say:
Manchester City face an increasingly desperate battle to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, but hope to take a step closer to landing Kevin De Bruyne when his agent meets with Wolfsburg next week.
De Bruyne is intelligent and skilful enough to play on either flank or in the hole. So we expect Manchester City to push the boat out for the lad this summer.
Let’s see De Bruyne in action. Manchester City fans: do you feel that the Belgian can noticeably improve the first team?
