One of the big reasons for Tottenham’s lack of activity in the market, since the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino to White Hart Lane, must surely be their already burgeoning squad size.
There is so much dead wood at Tottenham that they will need to get rid of up to a dozen players this summer if they want to make room for substantial improvements.
And, after successfully pulling a rabbit out of the hat with the almost incredible £10m deal for Paulinho, the latest name to be offloaded permanently is that of Lewis Holtby. His move to Hamburg has been confirmed by Tottenham on their official Twitter feed:
We actually felt that Holtby was a better player than some of the other midfielders brought in to Tottenham over the last few years. But he never got much of a crack at the whip with just 39 appearances – many off the bench – in 2012 and 2013 before being loaned out to Fulham.
But if he isn’t going to become a regular at Tottenham then it has to be good news that the lad has been shipped out. Let’s hope that Tottenham can do deals for more peripheral players like Capoue, Lennon, Soldado and Adebayor so that Spurs can increase their spending power and reduce the wage bill this summer.
Tottenham fans: Do you expect big investment in the midfield this summer or do you already have enough quality in there with the likes of Mason, Bentaleb and Dembele?
