We love Willian. He seems to be slightly underrated at Chelsea, where he hasn’t been starting every week, albeit in a very strong squad.
But, while too many pacy wingers don’t have enough end product, Willian is in that rare category of footballers with genuine pace, who also have a really good football brain as well as a consistent final ball.
He’s a regular for Brazil and has never let Chelsea down. But if Arda Turan joins the club this summer, as seems very possible, then perhaps Willian should be most fearful of losing his place in the side.
Because, while Arda can play anywhere across the midfield – this flexibly is one of his key strengths – he was overwhelmingly used on the right side last season at Atletico. He played a few times elsewhere in the team but 26 times on the right of midfield.
In terms of the forward positions Hazard isn’t going to lose his place. Nor is Costa, when fit. So the question is whether Arda is deployed in the place of Willian or Oscar.
Turan can do a great job at number ten and we would be very tempted to replace Oscar instead of Willian. The pace of the latter trumps that of Turan and Willian also has the athleticism to get up and down the park all day long, as is the requirement of a wide man in Jose’s 4-2-3-1 system.
But Jose has always been a big fan of Oscar and Turan’s experience down the right side may be the decisive factor.
But it would be a shame to lose Willian’s electric pace and penetration from a side which loves to soak up pressure before hitting the opposition on the break.
It will be fascinating to see which way Jose goes if Turan does come to Chelsea. But, as the old cliche goes, it’s a great problem to have.

I always think that what people say about willian defines how much they know about modern football & that includes chelsea fans. Willian is one of the most essential parts of the chelsea team. Lets forget about his defensive stuff because everyone agrees he’s great at that. Watch how many times a game he runs the ball from roundabout out penalty area into the oppositions half – because he’s so quick he draws players and then watch how many times he gives the ball exactly when Hazard is in space. He is one of the great linking players in modern football rarely i mean rarely, does he die with ball. He links forwards backs and mid field over and over and over again. he has very quick feet, perfect balance and is much stronger than he looks. He’s also an accurate long or short passer and is capable of playing killer balls in the opposition box. Goals so what we’ve got lots of players can do that — i also think he may be a better number 10 than oscar good as oscar is.
Next year willian is going to have a blinder of a year. That’s my early prediction.

Willian is the most overrated player I think I have ever seen. I genuinely do not understand why there is this huge misconception that Willian is a gear player. Yes he tracks and defends well for a winger, but his actual impact in the game in terms of attacking is truly pathetic. He runs around with this blank expression on his face.eveytine he gets the ball he slows down our counter attack. He is not a smart footballer, he is not a skilful footballer, rather he is merely a someone who has high stamina. For someone with such great pace, when has he ever really used it with great effect.

Willian is very good at keeping possesion. He also has pace and stamina but sometimes I think his game lacks direction. He seems to run out of ideas around the opponents area. His positioning around the box is also pathetic, as if he doesn’t care to score goals. Griezman would have been perfect but I still don’t mind a Turan, Sterling or any other winger with an eye for goals. He has not done much in terms of goals or killer assists as far as I am concerned

Some of you guys said you prefered willian to Oscar, have you forgoten they play in different position? Oscar is a very talented playmaker, a good passer, also good in creating chances when fit which Chelsea need, can alos score from outside the box, Turan will be a good signing 4 sure but not at the expense of Oscar, infact Oscar is the better player among them when fully fit.

I don’t know why you our talking about who is best as turan has not signed and also some papers saying agreed gee with barca some with us and some with man u I would like to see him at chelsea but we will just have to wait it would be nice to see 3 or 4 new players at chelsea still awaiting the first as I do not count young players who them go out on loan what do you think and have you any more new on new players or the turan saga

José should buy Turn, because he can play anywhere. In football no position is permanent for any player incase of injury, fatigue, fitness etc. It doesn’t matter who starts a game. It’s good to have in the bench players and good as those on the pitch. To garranttee victory. U don’t know what can happen. Remember what happened to Real Madrid . They have good quality 11 players to start or win any game put in front of them. But look at what happened to them when some key payers left, had injury, weren’t fit. What was effect? No truphies all season. Cost the couch his job. More payers want to go. Giving their arch rival uper hand Being the biggest spending club in the world… it a shame. Diogo Costa was injured. Chelsea struggled to keep up with 2 goals ratio per game. Remind was in and out with injury. Drogba was the sharp strong sniper he used to in Chelsea. So if Chelsea want to retain the league title and compete in Champions league. Then José shouldn’t fail to bring something strong in attack midfield and defence.
