Power and Goals

Tottenham have been linked, in the latest news cycle, with a player of genuine quality. Christian Benteke suffered a really bad injury two years ago and took a long time to come back to the boil – there were concerns that he may never quite reach his potential.

But towards the end of last season we began to see the old Benteke again. He hit 15 in 32 games for Aston Villa – he scored 13 of their 31 league goals last term – and without him Villa might well be playing Championship football this autumn.

But, such is the way of modern football, that it seems almost inevitable that he will move on. If not this summer then before too long.

Tottenham have been linked and, although it throws up certain questions about formation, we would bite the hand off the selling party if offered the chance to sign this lad. Even if it meant paying the release clause of £32.5m.

Because he’s absolute class. And he’s tailor made for The Premier League with his power and technique. But how would Tottenham line up with both he and Kane in the side. Because you simply aren’t going to leave either on the bench.

Tottenham could just go with two up top and put Eriksen in the midfield.

But this may weaken Tottenham defensively. So perhaps a 3-5-2 next season? It hasn’t been used to great effect in The Premier League yet but Liverpool and Manchester United both gave it a try last year and there are obvious pros to the system.

It means that the wing backs offer the requisite width which allows teams to also pack their midfield.

So perhaps the progressive mind of Pochettino could be drawn to a formation something like this next season.

Tottenham fans: how would you squeeze these guys into the side?

Benteke has said he will snub Spurs even if Villa agree on a deal. He will also not want to be second choice behind Kane. Furthermore playing 2 up top will not happen because Poch has not shown that he’s willing to deviate from his 4-2-3-1 setup. So let’s call a spade a spade and recognize this is not happening. We need a back up striker who is willing to primarily play in EL and cup matches and step in if Kane gets injured or hits a long patch of bad form. That will not be Benteke.

Have anyone evet heard of duo-strikers, twin-strikers.
N they can be very effective.
Least one forgets, d previous season, d duo of Sturrigde n Suarez nearly nearly won d EPL cup n landed no 2.
Liverpool were tormenting other clubs with their terrible duo.
Spurs also can with Kane n Bentekke.
