We find this one a bit strange but, with such a weight of media intensity on it now, perhaps there is substance to the story.
According to various sources Chelsea have made a bid for Stoke’s brilliant stopper, Asmir Begovic.
And The Daily Mail has reported that a second bid has now gone in:
Update from Sportsmail’s Simon Jones: Chelsea have increased their bid for Stoke’s Asmir Begovic to £8million. It looks very likely a deal will now get completed.
The solid stopper looks set to quit Stoke this summer and, with Petr Cech completing his move to Arsenal this week, Chelsea are in the market for back up to Thibaut Courtois.
But therein could lie the biggest challenge to bringing the Bosnian to Stamford Bridge.
At 28, and at the top of his game, Begovic will surely want to be playing every week. But with Courtois in the way this simply isn’t going to happen at Chelsea, barring injury to the number one.
If Begovic does move to West London he will surely sample success over the next few years, but as a seldom used squad member rather than a first teamer.
We feel that, like Cech, Begovic is just too good to be sitting on the bench. He could walk into most of the teams in The Premier Legaue so perhaps he will hold out a bit longer to see what other offers come in. We are sure that he won’t have to wait too long.
Let’s see the lad in action. Chelsea fans: any realistic chance of signing a player this good as back up to Courtois?
