Manchester United: £80m for CR7, £65m for Ramos? Surely Louis will come to his senses

Ramos: Simply Not Worth The Money

Do me a favour

With latest reports today that Manchester United would have to pay £65m for Sergio Ramos, we simply hope that Louis van Gaal is putting this silly idea to bed for once and for all.

Because, when you consider that Manchester United sold the second best player in the world, at the age of 24 to Real Madrid for £80m, the idea of splurging £65m on a 29 year centre back seems tantamount to insanity.

Manchester United’s spending trends have changed completely over the last couple of years as the wage and transfer fee structure has been smashed. First Wayne Rooney signed a new contract for around £250k a week and then the club signed Angel di Maria for £59.7m.

With the club doing a deal of unprecedented size with kit manufacturers Adidas, they may argue that money is no issue and it’s all about getting the best players.

Sorry but that theory doesn’t wash. Ask any Manchester United fan whether they would rather wipe out the horrific debt pile or sign a defender for £65m and we are sure that the answer will be overwhelming.

Ramos: Simply Not Worth The Money

In every possible way, the idea of signing Ramos stinks of misuse of the company funds. Why have a massive scouting network only to sign a player who could be scouted by a guy in tracksuit bottoms from the couch of his home, simply by turning on Sky Sports?

If Manchester United really do have £65m to waste on Ramos – and there is no suggestion yet that they will bite – then they should seriously consider throwing the money back into the debt mountain and instead promote one of the youngsters, or put their faith in the improving trio of Jones, Smalling and Rojo.

Because this deal is not going to please many Manchester United fans.
