Star names

We haven’t been particularly impressed with much of the transfer rumour pertaining to Manchester United this summer – there are too many veterans in there to expect a quicker and more spritely United next season. Because, lest we forget, this side already lacks pace.

Di Maria and Shaw are the only two with genuinely impressive groundspeed and neither have been regular starters for Manchester United hitherto.

But the addition of Memphis Depay should add spark next season and Sergio Ramos (the most oft red-carded player in Real Madrid history), if he comes, is pretty quick too.

We love the idea of Manchester United signing Morgan Schneiderlin. He may not have quite the passing range at this point but, other than that, he’s almost a carbon copy of Michael Carrick – who also joined the club at 25.

Arda Turan, though also too close to drawing a pension for our liking (29 in Jan), would grace any team with his quality in ht short term and we wouldn’t be at all surprised with his signature. And while we would also expect another striker and right back the be signed, here is how Manchester United could line up if there three do join the club.

Manchester United fans: would this team get the club much closer to the title or does it still lack cutting edge?
