Seriously? Some players seem to be terminally linked to Manchester United but never actually make the transfer. We always say that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market but we have absolutely no idea where the smoke comes from in this case.
Because, believe it or not, a good four years after the story first broke, Manchester United are once again said to be making a move for….you’ve guessed it…Nicolas Gaitan! We know that Manchester United can be slow to complete their signings but this is ridiculous.
The ever eager Express quotes the agent of the player as saying:
“Anything is possible as the negotiations are pending.
“We are waiting for the Manchester United hierarchy to respond and other than that I cannot do anything more.”
After four years of sporadic links this one should most definitely be taken with a pinch of salt.
Manchester United fans will largely be keen for Angel di Maria to stay at the club and, as a left footer, one would assume that Gaitan would be bought as a replacement for his fellow countryman.
While he’s a decent player with a good delivery, he’s nowhere near as prolific or explosive as his compatriot and we think that Gaitan would almost certainly represent a downgrade on Di Maria, who could still prove to be a top signing for Manchester United.
