We have been saying for ages that if Real Madrid really want David de Gea then they should be made to pay a heavy price.
Manchester United is not some mickey mouse club which inevitably has to sell its best players. Indeed United have won The Champions League twice in the last 15 years, just like the Spanish club.
United want to keep De Gea but if they are forced to sell then they should demand top quality in return. This is, after all, one of the very best players in the world.
And, if reports are to be believed today, then Manchester United have finally realised the strength of their hand. The Daily Mail reports:

We love that. We would argue that only Ronaldo is as good as De Gea – in terms of global standing in his position – so why should Manchester United settle for a small fee in return for such a top player.
It seems to us that Real Madrid want their cake and eat it. But, hopefully, Louis van Gaal will further increase his popularity with Manchester United fans this summer by not only buying well, but selling well too.
