Tottenham still haven’t solved their problems at the back and you do feel that if they could finally crack the defence they would provide a much more compelling case for a top four finish.
Jan Vertonghen is top quality and latest reports suggest that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino may look to pair him next season with Belgium international Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld was one of the better performers in The Premier League last season as he appeared in one of the best defences in the league at Southampton.
The 26 year old is a regular for Belgium, having played 47 times since his debut in 2009 (1 goal), and has turned out 27 times for The Saints with great credit but his future remains up in the air. It’s not clear whether his club, Atletico Madrid, want him back or whether he is surplus to requirements in Spain.
But we think that he could play for any team in the league and Tottenham will be doing very well to win the race for his signature.
