Hallelujah! With widespread reports suggesting that Petr Cech is on his way to Arsenal we can finally imagine that Arsene Wenger does indeed share the same concerns as Arsenal fans, about the weaknesses in the side.
Because Arsenal have had substandard keepers for too long. Substandard is perhaps an unfair term to use. Szczesny and Ospina are decent players. But decent players seldom win you the league title.
How many ‘decent’ players did Chelsea have in their squad last season? Felipe Luis? John Obi Mikel? Neither saw much game time. Meanwhile they had a world class reserve keeper in Cech.
This is the sort of quality that Arsenal need to aspire to and the move for Cech could signal the start of a breakthrough summer for The Gunners.
The Telegraph states:
Cech Looks likely to join Arsenal this summer
and The Daily Mirror:
Arsenal’s Petr Cech transfer close to completion after Wenger vows he WILL be his No1
We aren’t saying that Wenger has got it wrong every time in the market. Alexis Sanchez was a game changing signing. But the Arsenal manager needs to buy another centre back and defensive midfielder before further indulging his desires to sign attackers every year.
The additions of Cech, Morgan Schneiderlin and a versatile player like Geoffrey Kondogbia would put Arsenal in a far better position next season.
Let’s see some of Cech’s better moments. Arsenal fans: the perfect addition?
