Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho looks for a lot of qualities when assessing the market for new additions to the squad. But he will seldom buy a player who lacks physical strength. Even a player like Eden Hazard, while small, always looked as if he was going to develop into a sturdy lad.
And, if reports are to be believed, the Chelsea boss is looking at another titan for the defence next season. The Express reports:
Chelsea want Lyon star Samuel Umtiti to partner Kurt Zouma in future defence
Just 21 years of age but this lad has already played 100 league games for Lyon. His adaptability is, in part, responsible for this as he can fill in at left back as well as in his main position in the centre.
Kurt Zouma has a long way to go but the report suggests that Jose wants this to be his centre back partnership of the future. While he may prefer to bring the pace of Raphael Varane to the club, that prospect currently looks distant and Umtiti may prove a more likely addition for Chelsea.
Let’s take a look at the French youth international in action. Chelsea fans: would Umtiti complement the talents of Zouma at the back or are they too similar to become a really celebrated partnership in the long term?
