Special player

Chelsea don’t need too many additions to their pacy and talented squad but there is room for improvement up top. With Didier Drogba leaving the club and Loic Remy perhaps about to follow suit, the most obvious addition for Chelsea right now appears to be Radamel Falcao.

But Chelsea could do a lot worse than to have a look at want away Juventus striker Carlos Tevez. Atletico Madrid seem really keen to sign him but Sky Sports say that an unnamed English club have made a move to being the player back to England.

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has been offered the chance to return to England by an unknown Premier League club, according to Sky sources.

But Sky Sports understand that club is not Liverpool, despite press reports suggesting Brendan Rodgers could tie up a deal for the former Manchester City and Manchester United star this week.

Yes, he is 31 and has run a lot of miles. But he shows no sign of losing that wonderful energy and, even at 80 per cent capacity, he would still cover more ground than most of his peers.

Tevez is proven class who is more adaptable than many number 9s. His work rate allows him to play down the flanks or in behind. He scores goals everywhere he goes and we think that he would be a big hit at Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho is clearly encouraging his talented youngsters to grasp the nettle and stake their claim to a place in the starting elven. But he has always liked experience up top – a player who will remain calm under pressure and score vital goals. To this end Tevez would be a great signing for Chelsea and, with just a year left on his contract, he wouldn’t be too pricey.

Let’s see him in action. Chelsea fans: too old?
