Real Madrid star Martin Odegaard was always going to find it difficult to get into the first team. Los Blancos obviously took him on board for 6 months to see what sort of level he was at and how he trained with the senior squad.

But now they have had a proper chance to assess him, they have decided that it’s time to send him out on loan to get some vital experience.

British media outlet, The Daily Mail, says that he may well stay in La Liga next season:

Villarreal are favourites to take Real Madrid’s teen wonder Martin Odegaard on loan this summer as the Spanish club send him out to gain first team experience.

The 16-year-old was in action for Norway again this week, outshining Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a fine 90 minute display against Sweden, but new Real coach Rafa Benitez wants him loaned out next season because of the competition at Real with Isco and James Rodriguez among those blocking his path to the first team.

Still not even 17 until December, Odegaard did get some game time in the first team this season. He came on as a sub in the final match of the campaign. This appearance made him the youngest ever player to appear for Real Madrid seniors at the age of just 16 years and 157 days.

So much more is expected of the lad and if he can get a game for Villareal next season, who have been performing admirably themselves this year, then he will be doing extremely well for himself.

Real Madrid fans: Is a loan the best option or should he stay at the club next season?
