Real Madrid had a hugely disappointing end to a season which promised so much. After playing some of the best football that we have seen in the first few months of 2014/15 they chugged in the second half of the campaign as their fierce rivals, Barcelona, got better and better.
But let’s not hit the red button just yet. Real Madrid still have a great squad and one which has a good average age. The right back position has been addressed with the signing of Danilo because Dani Alves will probably leave. And Real Madrid will probably bring in one or two new creators as they seem to do each season.
Two of the players who have been linked with the club are Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero.
Sterling
If he plays like he did last season then he wouldn’t get off the bench at Real Madrid. But if he performs as he did the year before, he would take Gareth Bale’s place in the team. Because, at his best, he’s almost unplayable.
Aguero
Very few players could improve a team with Karim Benzema up top. And we think that last season was his best at the club. But Real Madrid probably need freshening up up top – especially with the new, frightening, front line at Barca – and if you gave us the choice between the Frenchman and the Argentine we would take the latter. He’s as good a finisher as Benzema but is quicker and has better movement.
With these two playing at their peak, the new right back, and David de Gea in between the sticks, Real Madrid would be a real handful next season. Here is how they could line up. Real Madrid fans: a better side than last season?
