We think that the reason Jose Mourinho is so successful is that he ticks the three main boxes for a top manager. He can man-manage brilliantly, spot a top player a mile off and has tactical nous.
All of those senses would have come into play when – as seems increasingly likely – the Chelsea boss decided that Radamel Falcao would be right for the club.
At 29 he should be in his prime but serious knee injuries have blighted his career and arguably blunted his speed around the box.
But if the Chelsea boss reckons he can return Falcao to his rightful spot as one of the world’s leading forwards, then who are we to argue.
The Star picks up the story today:
Chelsea close to snapping up Man United loan flop Radamel Falcao
The champions are in advanced talks with Monaco about taking the hitman to Stamford Bridge.
and there are even ‘quotes’ from an ‘inside source’:
A Chelsea source revealed: “Talks have been going well and Jose is still a big fan of Falcao, despite the difficult time he had at United.
“It looks like the deal is going to happen.”
This is far from tabloid nonsense as far as we are concerned. There has been a strong swell of rumour in Falcao’s home country of Colombia that the deal will go ahead and we struggle to think of a better boss to bring Falcao back to the boil than the inimitable Mourinho.
We could be talking about a Torres or Shevchenko scenario here. But there were portents last season – despite his poor goal return – that his world class instincts were returning.
He didn’t get a proper run of games ta United and may suffer the same fate at Chelsea, where Diego Costa is king. But he’s good enough to become Chelsea’s number one and that is possibly why Mourinho sees the potential in such move.
