Every now and again us football anoraks do a bit of voluntary promotion for a player who may have gone under the radar but who we think is a natural talent.
One such player for soccersweep has been Geoffrey Kondogbia. The lad joined Monaco last summer in a deal which we thought was rather surprising. We expected Arsenal, with a Frenchman at the helm, to be particularly keen on this superb young talent.
Reports today suggest that the player is indeed now being monitored by Arsenal with a view to a summer signing. But they will have to move quick as others are reportedly interested too. The Mail reports:
Arsenal have asked to be kept informed after Inter Milan made an approach for Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.
Inter have made enquiries for the France international and are willing to offer £18.5million but that will fall short of Monaco’s valuation with the French looking for at least £25m. The 22-year-old has been an option for Arsene Wenger since he was at Lens as a teenager and shot to prominence with his performances for Sevilla. He impressed again in the Champions League this season.
and The Telegraph has also followed the story.
The great thing about Kondogbia is that he’s equally comfortable in the centre of defence or as an anchor man. The even better news is that doesn’t mean he’s just a ‘utility player’. Like Wayne Rooney, for example, Kondogbia can be brilliant in more than one role and that would bode well for an Arsenal squad which we feel needs strengthening in both departments. But his true calling is in central midfield where we believe that he could finally replace the legend that is Patrick Vieira.
Just 22 years of age the Frenchman has already broken into the international set up and is a regular for a Monaco side with many big names. he’s strong as an ox but with great feet and awareness of what’s around him. He glides through games with apparent ease, such is his natural talent.
While he may represent more of a gamble than Schneiderlin, he can be an even better long-term acquisition for Arsenal than his countryman.
Let’s see him in action. Arsenal fans: Geoff or Morgan?

lets keep our hopes high and finally see one of these players at the Emirates not like in the past getting the Gooners hopes up for nothing. When the deals are finalised and sealed and see any one of the players that the Boss is after playing with the Gunners, one will know, otherwise it is just wishful thinking.
( Morgan Schneiderlin centre half/ the Borussia Midfielder and remember last year the Higuain saga – all players connected and coming to Arsenal when in fact none of them appeared at the Emirates
