As with most things Real Madrid related, the imminent appointment of Rafael Benitez is one of the worst kept secrets in football.
Latest reports suggest that he will be officially appointed on Wednesday as the coach of Real Madrid. And, having seen Carlo Ancelotti get fired less than a tear after winning La Decima, he knows the score – a trophy a season is the very minimum expected at this mammoth club.
British media outlet, The BBC says:
Rafael Benitez will be presented as @realmadrid manager tomorrow morning.
We have said it before that we don’t believe that Benitez is an obvious upgrade on Ancelotti. But his style may just suit the needs of this Real Madrid team – he has always liked to play open football but is also known for his meticulous attention to defending.
He’s a man of passion and that will appeal to the fans. And his most immediate concern is what to do with Gareth Bale – does he attempt to build a team around him, let him go while his value remains high or let him continue on the right flank and hope that the Welshman has a season more like his first than his second in Spain.
Either way, it’s never boring at Real Madrid is it?
