Those one has been rumbling on for a while and the change of manager at Real Madrid won’t have sped the deal up.

But, however long it takes to complete, you do feel that there is now an air of inevitability about David de Gea to Real Madrid.

Latest reports in England quote Spanish radio journalist, Joseba Larranaga, as saying:

“The first signing with Benitez will be De Gea.

“The goalkeeper has reached an agreement with Real Madrid, although it is something difficult that is Manchester United.”

What he probably means by that is that Manchester United don’t want to sell and, if they are forced to, they will get a top price for him.

And let’s face it, he’s worth every penny, whatever the fee. Because, at 24, not only is De Gea already one of the very best in the world, but he can give 10 years to Real Madrid, who won’t have to think about a replacement for up to a decade. So, in effect, even if he costs £40m, then he will be relatively cheap when you consider his longevity.

DE GEA - ABSOLUTE MUSTARD

DE GEA – ABSOLUTE MUSTARD

The deal may still hinge on whether Real Madrid are prepared to let one of their squad go as part of the deal. There has been talk of Coentrao but United are well covered on the left flank. Their most wanted is perhaps Gareth Bale but it looks ever more likely that he will stay for at least another season.

Real Madrid fans: after a somewhat disappointing season would you be prepared to let Gareth Bale go as part of the De Gea deal?

Bale is not a bad player as it seems, what he needs is a family and a sense of belonging which cr7 refuses to accept. Cr7 should leave.
