In a rather surprising move on the part of Real Madrid they have released public statement to deny that they have had any contact with Juventus regarding the transfer of Paul Pogba.
Pogba has been the subject of intense speculation about his future, with most of the elite clubs in Europe seemingly lining up to buy him.
Real Madrid wouldn’t normally confirm or deny a move for any player. So, perhaps out of respect to a club which will want to focus on its biggest game in a decade next weekend, they have put this one to bed for now. They said in a statement:
‘Following the reports published in the Italian newspaper La Stampa concerning an alleged offer from Real Madrid for the player Paul Pogba, the club wishes to state the following:
‘Real Madrid have had no contact either with Juventus or the player’s agent and, as a consequence, the reports published in this newspaper are completely false.’
Real Madrid have never been scored to stockpile players in the past and, at 22, Pogba has the world at his feet. But we do question how easily he would slot into the side. Really Madrid usually play a 4-2-3-1 and Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have been sensational in the ‘2’ when fit this season. Looking further up the park, Pogba can also play in behind the striker. But this would mean moving the excellent James Rodriguez to another role – perhaps on the wing. This in turn would mean that one of the front three would have to make way.
There are reports of Karim Benzema moving on this summer and that would perhaps free up some space.
But this latest statement might suggest to some that the player isn’t a priority signing for Real Madrid.
Let’s see Pogba in action. Real Madrid fans: keen?
