There are intense rumours flying around that Chelsea will invest in another wide man this summer as Jose Mourinho looks for more teeth to his attack. He already has Hazard and Willian, with Cuadrado settling. But it’s such an energy sapping position, and such an important one in Jose’s system, that the Chelsea boss would clearly like to have top options in those positions.
Antoine Griezmann seems like a really tasty option. But one player who won’t be joining Chelsea again is Wolfsburg man Kevin de Bruyne. He spent an unhappy time Chelsea before moving to The Bundesliga and expelling into life.
The 23 year old has a remarkable 26 assists and 15 goals in the Gemran league this season, leading to suggestions that he will make a quick return to The Premier League. But if he does come back to England, it won’t be to Chelsea. De Bruyne said:
‘I think, to be honest, that I would not return to Chelsea as long as he [Mourinho] is in charge. I know that I like the Bundesliga, and it always did me good.’
We think that he’s a fabulous player. Direct, efficient and excellent in front of goal. He’s also a real team player. But perhaps the one quality that he lacks, in terms of Chelsea’s requirements, is lightning pace. He’s no slouch but Jose just loves his wide men to be electric in terms of their pace.
Let’s take a look at the lad in action for Wolfsburg. Chelsea fans: was it a mistake to let this lad go?
