Manchester United: Has Herrera’s Tweet lifted the lid on De Gea future?

Harmless or Cryptic?

Cryptic?

Manchester United fans are currently heavily invested in the speculation surrounding the future of their superstar goalkeeper David de Gea.

It’s been a long term policy of Manchester United to renew the contracts of their stars with about 18 months to go before expiry. But the case of David de Gea is strange. United surely want to keep the lad but he only has a year left on his contract, leading many to believe that he wants a move to Real Madrid this summer or next. There is something not quite right about proceedings.

And, to perhaps lend more intrigue to the tale, fellow Manchester United star Ander Herrera has Tweeted a potentially rather cryptic message about number two goalkeeper Victor Valdes. He Tweeted ‘Good moment to keep reading this interesting book @1victorvaldes’

With reports today suggesting that De Gea’s Manchester United team mates think that the player has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid, this Tweet is intriguing. It could of course be that Herrera simply has some spare time and wants to offer some free marketing for his mate.

But it will surely leave tongues wagging about potential subtexts. Is Herrera suggesting that the book is particularly relevant given what’s going on behind the scenes at Manchester United with De Gea?

Valdes is a high profile keeper and, while he has been recovering from a long-term injury, you wouldn’t have thought that he would be happy to play second fiddle for the rest of his career. He is only 33 after all, which is a relatively decent age for a stopper. The conspiracy theorists amongst us may assume that Valdes was promised the job as number one at Old Trafford from this summer onwards.

While Valdes is a top keep most would prefer to see De Gea between the sticks again come August. Manchester United fans: Will David be at United come the autumn?
