Manchester United fans won’t be happy with this.
Just prior to his weekly press conference, Louis van Gaal has done an interview with Manchester United’s in house club channel, MUTV, and confirmed that United will be without Michael Carrick, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Phil Jones against Chelsea.
Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Michael Carrick, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Daley Blind are all out of tomorrow’s game against Chelsea. “It’s all part of life in football,” he told MUTV.
We had been very confident that Manchester United would take something from this game if Michael Carrick was fit. Not only is he missing but his replacement in the anchor man role, Daley Blind, is also out.
The fact that Manchester United are also without two of their three main centre backs, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, rubs salt into the wounds.
Without wishing to be defeatist you could argue that this bad luck pretty much hands the title to Chelsea on a plate. Manchester United are now down to bare bones in defensive midfield and defence and will surely struggle against the waves of attacks that Chelsea will unleash on Louis van Gaal’s side.
But, with form and confidence so high, perhaps this Manchester United side can rouse themselves for the titanic feat of beating Chelsea on their own patch.
Manchester United fans: thoughts please. Can United still mount a credible challenge to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge without these key men?
