Everton Kingpin talks transfers

Confident

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has opened up about his transfer plans for the summer and, in so doing, reassured the fans about the quality of the current Everton squad.

You would have to say that the team has under performed this season. On the back of such a strong campaign last year Everton didn’t kick on this term but Martinez is bullish. He told Everton’s official website:

“We have got a strong team with incredible experience – all we need is two or three players to take us to the next level and that’s something that is based on a lot of work and a lot of effort identifying those players.

“The recruitment department has been working really well over the last six months because we need to assemble a really strong squad for next season.

“We have got a lot of people working and identifying the targets that we need to help the players we have in place. The dressing room is strong and anything we do in the summer is to get us in a better place.”

We think that Everton need to sign another striker – a player with natural pace to take some of the pressure of Romelu Lukaku. Beyond that, their transfer activity may be dependent on their success in holding on to the likes of Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley – two players who are constantly getting linked to big money moves.

The Everton boss always seems to be on the look out for pace out wide and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him add to his roster of wide men this summer – even if he does manage to hold onto the impressive Aaron Lennon. On that front, Martinez said:

“The work rate Aaron Lennon has, has been a massive influence, along with the pace that helps him get into certain positions,” Martinez said.

“That has been infectious and is really helping the team. You see him going into goalscoring positions and using his talent and creativity in the final third.
