Manchester United: Top defensive target transfer now inevitable as his manager admits interest in the player?

Clyne - Power, athleticism and precision

It seems that Premier League clubs are preparing earlier for the transfer market each year. With so many teams competing for the brilliant few, talks are held way before the window opens in June.

One player who is sure to generate much hype this summer is Southampton’s brilliant full back Nathaniel Clyne. With question marks over that area of the pitch, Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the player and his boss Ronald Koeman admits that it will be difficult to hold on to him this summer:

“We are still trying to keep Clyne in the club. We know it’s not easy as maybe there is some interest,” Koeman told BBC Radio Solent.
“At the moment, there is not a serious bid for whichever player in the team, but we’ll do everything to keep them.”

Clyne has forced his way into the England team after two sublime seasons for The Saints. He’s young enough to command a huge fee but, at 24, has the maturity to go straight into the first team at Manchester United and do serious damage.

When we first saw him play we have to be reminded that he was a defender. He loves getting forward and has a huge engine. But the quantity of his work is matched by the quality of his play. He’s a great crosser of the ball but never neglects his defensive duties. In some ways, he reminds us of Ashley Cole, in terms of his work rate and impeccable defending, but perhaps has even more threat going forward.

We think that he would be the perfect, buccaneering full back for Manchester United, who should make him a transfer priority for the summer. Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: perfect choice?
