Let’s face it. As a neutral you would probably prefer to be the keeper of Manchester United than Real Madrid. Both jobs would pay similar wages but at least you would have something to do at United.
Nevertheless there has been almost constant speculation that De Gea will make the move to Real Madrid and, with a new contract unsigned there is very genuine cause for alarm amongst Manchester United fans. But, in a very strange news story The Express reports that Los Blancos will give up on De Gea and instead make a move for United’s second in command, Victor Valdes:
Real Madrid abandon David De Gea chase for Man Utd teammate Victor Valdes
Having represented arch rivals Barcelona for so long, and with such distinction, you would imagine that Valdes would be unlikely to want to court such controversy. When Valdes signed for Manchester United our instinct told us that he was being lined up as the replacement for his younger countryman.
While Valdes to Real Madrid would certainly be a preferable outcome for most Manchester United fans, we feel that the unsigned contract could be telling and that David might fancy a move back to his homeland sooner rather than later.
Manchester United fans: can you see De Gea signing a new contract at Old Trafford?
