Not on the bench he can’t

What is it about Manchester United and Argentinians? Seba Veron looked like God on grass when he was at Lazio but, as soon as he moved to United his head went and he couldn’t make a five yard pass.

Then there was Gabby Heinze, who did pretty well for Manchester United but then caused a huge fuss with a near move to arch rivals Liverpool.

And now Manchester United have spent nigh on £60m on Angel di Maria, who was selected for the World XI of the year, but has seemingly got worse the longer he has been at the club.

But his international team mate and Manchester City regular Pablo Zabaleta reckons that Manchester United need not worry. He is quoted in The Daily Express as saying:

“Sometimes when you are in a different country it can take time to settle well and because his price tag was so high, that also adds a lot of pressure, but I have no doubts he will become a big success for United because he’s a top quality player and if he’s not at his best at the moment, he’s still a great asset to have.

“He’s quick, fast and a great dribbler and whenever you play against him you know you are in for a difficult game and he’s the sort of player who can really hurt you if you give him too much space and time.”

Not on the bench he can’t!

But, like Pablo, we still feel that Di Maria can save his Manchester United career if he wants to. He’s got the pace, guile and athleticism to be superb for United but needs some game time and some luck. Despite not getting a start for a while he has provided two assists in his last two games – the pass for Mata’s goal against Liverpool was exquisite. Meanwhile, the man who is taking his place in the team, Ashley Young, only has one assist for the whole season.

It’s only a matter of time before Di Maria gets a run in the side and we would like to see him start on Sunday.
