It’s been doing the rounds for a few days now on social media and football forums. Manchester United have signed a huge new kit sponsorship deal with Adidas – one that eclipses any other such deal in world football – and that means an end to Nike’s logo on the famous red jersey of Manchester United.
And the black jersey it seems. because ‘leaked’ pictures of the new Manchester United changed strip show a slick looking black kit with red trim. We use the inverted commas because we always feel that the manufacturer is allowing the image to be leaked to give fans an exciting taster of what to expect, and also glean some initial opinion on the kit.
Our feeling is that it’s a good one. For two main reasons.
Firstly it doesn’t have any silly collars. While Eric sported the collar brilliantly, they are generally useless bits of material which have no purpose at all. Collars are also very dated – did you ever see a futuristic sci-fi show with collared costumes? Of course you didn’t because they are things of the past, not the present or the future.
Secondly, Manchester United always seem to do well in the black. There are, of course, exceptions but our memories of Manchester United in black are usually triumphant ones.
As long as Adidas continue to avoid collars, everyone will be happy. For your reference, here are the other leaked kits. Manchester United fans: do you like them?
