Louis van Gaal will be enjoying his toast soldiers this morning after a win which puts his side 8 points clear of the chasing pack in the race for the Champions League places. It’s a massive turn up for the books after a certain Merseyside outfit looked as if they might eclipse United in the table just a couple of weeks back.

After such a torrid season Manchester United will guard against complacency but thoughts will naturally now move on to the summer and who to bring in.

A midfield general will be fairly high up the order of priorities and latest reports suggest that Sami Khedira could be back on the menu. We heard that he was going back to Bayern but the venerable Daily Star states:

EXCLUSIVE: Man United offered £200,000-a-week Arsenal and Chelsea target Sami Khedira

At 28 Khedira has pretty much won the lot. He’s a wonderful team player but a man who has found his route to the Real Madrid first team blocked, since long-term injury, by the imperious partnership of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

There is little doubt that Khedira would be a good addition to a squad which looks increasingly likely to be playing in The Champions League next season.

But you know what we are going to say..wouldn’t Manchester United be better off spending their cash on a younger player who can improve over time? For example, at 25, the excellent Morgan Schneiderlin would be joining the club at the same age as Michael Carrick did. And we all know what value for money that he has offered.

But let’s see Khedira in action. Manchester United fans: worth the money?

Would go with Khedira while we slowly bring Ben Pearson into the team.
