Right Choice?

Arsene Wenger must be sitting in bed and particularly enjoying his toast soldiers this morning after a comprehensive defeat of Liverpool, which not only demonstrated Arsenal’s famous attacking verve, but also genuine coherence in defence.

Over the years we have suggested that the Frenchman gets the wool pulled over his eyes after such victories. He allows himself to think that the club doesn’t need to sign defenders after all. But, if they really want to challenge they need another anchor man and and keeper.

Yet rumours persist that further investment will come in the form of yet another creative midfielder.

Reports today suggest that Arsenal will pursue their long term interest in Yohan Cabaye this summer, with the Frenchman likely to leave PSG after a failed marriage. The Mirror reckons:

Yohan Cabaye back on Arsenal’s hit list as Arsene Wenger eyes £10million bid

The 29 year old has played 38 times for France and has appeared a similar number of times for PSG but has only played a bit part role at the club. Perhaps Wenger sees him as a successor to the regularly crocked Mikel Arteta in front of the defence. But we would much sooner see Arsene bring another Frenchman, Morgan Schneiderlin, to the club. With the brilliant Southampton star in their side, we could envisage genuine progress next season.

Let’s see Cabaye in action. Arsenal fans: Is Cabaye the right man to take Arsenal forward?
