Chelsea considering shock transfer of yet another forward

One of the best in Europe

Shocker

According to the latest press reports, Chelsea are considering a surprise swoop for Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne – a player who they only sold a year ago to Wolfsburg.

That’s according to Belgian publication Sportwereld (via BBC):

Chelsea are considering a surprise move to bring Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, 23, back to the club. (Sportwereld – in Flemish)

No, no, no. This one makes no sense at all. We like the player – he’s industrious, precise and definitely has the faith in his own ability required to play at a top club. He offers great service from either flank and also likes to cut in a score goals himself (he’s got 39 goals and 68 assists in 200 club games during his short career).

But we believe that the reason he was sold in the first place is the reason why Andre Schurrle was sold and Juan Cuadrado brought in – that is pace – or a lack of. De Bruyne is no slouch of course. But, like Schurrle, he doesn’t have that explosive pace off the mark, and over short distances, that Jose Mourinho so likes in his wide men – not only to get forward but also to recover defensively when the opposition is attacking.

Cuadrado, Hazard and Willian have it but De Bruyne and Schurrle don’t. And that’s why we feel that this one probably won’t materialise. We do feel that Chelsea will buy one more winger in the medium-term, so that they have two for each flank, but we’d be surprised if it was this lad.

Let’s take look at De Bruyne in action all the same. Chelsea fans: can you see the club re-signing De Bruyne or are you well-equipped in the wide areas right now?

Chelsea or should I say Jose are not interested in De Bruyne as he can’t defend and just having done business with Wolfsburg Jose will know that the current second placed Bundesliga outfit are not intent on selling him anyway. It really would not surprise me if this story eminated from the players agent in Belgium as Shurrle can play in De Bruyne,s position and he is trying to keep his clients profile up as high as possible. The United ‘story’ is also most probably invented when you consider their attacking options and personel. Wolsburg are likely to take Dortmunds mantle this season and De Bruyne is known to be very happy there so for me this media ‘story’ has absolutely no legs.
